Training Structures
Private Lessons
Dogs On Cue offers obedience in 3, 6 and 9 lesson packages. These classes take place at your home in the dog’s normal environment.
The initial class typically lasts 1 ½ hours. Thereafter, classes are 1 hour in length. Puppy Head Start class durations are based upon the puppy’s attention span – generally 45 minutes.
Day Training
This unique offering is the first of its kind in Houston and is designed to provide dog owners with the ultimate convenience in training. One hour private lessons with your dog and a Dogs on Cue trainer occur during the day – while you’re at home or when you’re away. Day Training is preferable to board and train because it allows the dog to learn in his own environment – the one in which he’ll be expected to perform after training ends.
Day Training packages are available in increments of 5 consecutive days or 10 days broken into two, 5 consecutive day segments separated by the weekend. At the end of each week, the trainer will meet with the owner to review the week’s accomplishments and provide homework for training reinforcement. At the end of the training period, a “transfer” lesson will take place with the owner so that your dog’s new manners and obedience can continue to be reinforced with the dog on-going.
Board and Train
Owners who are comfortable with their dogs living away from home for short periods of time may prefer Dogs on Cue’s Board and Train program. Offered as 7 day and 10-14 day plans, board and train student dogs live in the trainer’s home and are treated as part of his family during the training period. The dog receives obedience training each day, and also is taken to public places so that he is challenged to perform with varying levels of distraction. At the end of the training period, the trainer will review the results of the program with the owner and will conduct a “transfer” lesson so that the owner may learn how to reinforce the training learning’s with the dog upon reintroduction to his home environment.
Unlimited Group
One of the many great features that make Dogs on Cue training such a great value is our Unlimited Group classes. Most Dogs on Cue training programs include Unlimited Group as part of the plan. Unlimited Group classes begin when formal, private lessons end, and provide owner and student dog with a continuing education opportunity to refine existing skills and learn new ones. Classes are offered weekly and are located at several convenient Houston-area locations.
Puppy Head Start
Did you dream of having the most well-mannered dog on the block when you brought home your new puppy? If so, Puppy Head Start is the place to begin when you want a loving dog that will provide you with a lifetime of companionship that is free of behavior problems.
Dogs on Cue’s Puppy Head Start program will touch on obedience exercises like sit, down and walking on a loose leash, but its primary focus is on preventing the all too common behavior problems that plague most of the nation’s household dogs. The program is designed to capitalize on the critical developmental period (7-16 weeks) when behavior problems, such as jumping on people, nipping, using your expensive flooring as its own personal toilet, or inappropriate chewing on furnishings, are easily prevented.
You will learn why socialization is so critical to your puppy’s development as well as the best way to properly socialize your puppy so that he grows into a confident dog that is neither shy and fearful nor inappropriately aggressive toward people other than its owners. Dogs on Cue will help you establish a schedule so that your puppy not only becomes housebroken, but also isn’t stressed with separation anxiety when you’re away. We will teach you how to prevent your puppy from growing up to aggressively guard his food bowl, chew toys or even a preferred sleeping spot.
Preventable behavior problems are the single, largest non-medical reasons that dogs are euthanized in the United States. You owe it to yourself, your family and your puppy to ensure that he doesn’t become one of the casualties.
Dogs on Cue’s Puppy Head Start consists of 4 in-home classes in which you and your student puppy will learn these important lessons:
- How a dog learns
- House training
- Obedience – come, walking on a loose leash, place, sit and down
- Proper greeting behaviors – no jumping on people
- Socialization – people, other animals, different environments; strange sights, sounds and smells.
- Child-proofing puppy
- Resource guarding prevention exercises
- Handling exercises – preparing for vet exams, grooming and other similar situations
- Separation anxiety prevention
