The Dogs on Cue Method
Dogs on Cue specializes in motivational, reward-based remote collar training.
Our dog training system is positive. We do not incorporate punitive methods. Instead, we use an e-collar to gain your dog’s attention when he’s distracted and to motivate him to perform. Stimulation of the collar feels very similar to someone tapping on your shoulder to gain your attention when you’re in a crowded and noisy environment.
A remote, e-collar produces an electrical stimulation based upon technology similar to that used in a medical tens unit device. The model used by Dogs on Cue includes vibration settings as well. Remote collars are not shock collars and will not hurt the dog. During the Dogs on Cue Preview – our in-home demo – we’ll let you feel the full range of the collar’s stimulation so that you can experience its mildness first-hand. We would not train with e-collars if they were harmful to dogs, because we love dogs! In fact, our own personal dogs work with e-collars.
Our goal is for your dog to behave properly without dependence on the collar.
Eventually, he will not need the collar at home or in distraction-free environments. However, you will want your pet to wear the collar in distracting environments for his safety, as it works like insurance – you will want to have it when you need it.
Today’s collars are very small units, and dogs as small at 10 pounds can wear a collar. So, small dogs can be trained with e-collars, too! We simply replace part of the collar with a small dog unit so that it feels more comfortable on the neck. You will be surprised when you see your dog running around like he’s not wearing a collar!
Remote collars can even be used on puppies. The typical puppy is ready for e-collar training at 4-5 months old. However, the best gauge is the mental maturity of the puppy, as we have trained some dogs as young as 3 months. (Please note, our Puppy Head Start program does not include use of the remote collar for puppy training.)
Your dog requires no previous training prior to entering Dogs on Cue’s training program.
Nor does he need to know even basic commands before being trained with the e-collar. If your pet already knows basic obedience but is unreliable on or off leash, you’ll be amazed at how fast he will be able work off leash and under control!
In fact, what we love best about e-collar training is that from early on the dog is learning to work off leash, which is where he will be experiencing the majority of his life – off leash.
You can feel good about your pet’s training with Dogs on Cue’s methods, because our training produces happy, upbeat dogs that are under control. When under control, the dog can enjoy life better because he can do what he loves best – spending time with you! And, you can do all that you enjoy with him as well – confidently having him ride in the car with you while you’re running errands, sitting outside enjoying a patio restaurant, and being out when you have company over.
